Default Hog #8

I jumped a couple of big hogs only 60 yards from the boat last weekend, but had a bow in my hand. Today I went back with a Semi-Auto 22WMR to even the playing field.

The wind was right and the water low, so I docked the boat nearly a mile from the bed and walked the water to keep the noise down. Jumped some deer in the water, then saw one under an oak Tree eating acorns. A big hog bolted and I put one in its hind-quarter, then seemed to be behind on every follow-up shot. I walked that direction and looked in every thick area, but nothing.

I proceeded along the waters edge towards the bed. As the previous weekend, once the water ended the corn flakes began with the dry leaves, which caused another pack of hogs to holler and break the previous weekend. But I have learned not to stalk slowly when dry, so I moved in steadily at a fast walk. When I got about 15 yards out, I'm thinking theirs no one home. Within 10 yards a big boar gets up out of a shadow! The CMR starting barking and he went down about 30 yards out with a spine shot. With brute strength he stands with his 2 front legs and is struggling to proceed, when I put another 40 grain projectile in him; he starts hollering and that was church.

After seeing his cutters, I'm sure glad he didn't come at me at that range. A real gratifying feeling to hunt this area 3 times and get on hogs each time, then finally make it happen. On the way back to the boat I'm literally a stones throw from it, when a boar breaks out of a treetop & offers no shot! I think it was the one I shot earlier; I'll get him next time.

Good hunting.

Those big hogs sure can make an exciting hunt. Keep stacking them. Heck of a season.
