Anyone have an idea on whether Cat Island will be opened by Squirrel season?

Me too. I've heard good things about the squirrel hunting there but I've never been. Sadly, I only live about 30 or 40 minutes away.

Been a few times, squirrel hunting is good. Plan on bring ing my son there this year. I live about 15 minutes, so if you ever want a hunting partner, shoot me a pm and I'll give you my info. I'll show a few spots I've been before.

Squirrel hunting out there has gotten poor over the years..... use to be plentiful..... now...... if you can find some good oak groves, which there are lots out there, you can hammer them..... if it opens this year, squirrels may have had a chance to replenish....... and I'm not BSing, the guys that know me in this board, know I'm a bushy tail maniac........ but, I also screwed up a few years ago and took some people to my Lil honey holes..... I'll never do that again

Here is an official update!
Cat Island NWR updates: Road damage from The Great Flood of 2016 have not been completed. The refuge will remain closed until further notice. Keep in mind that this closure also affects any areas accessible by boat.
I want to again re-iterate that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have NO role in those repairs. The Creek Rd. is a parish road, and we do not own it. We are getting a large amount of phone calls regarding the road. Despite what you hear, we do not own the road. The Cat Island NWR will remain closed until the Creek Rd. repairs are completed. At that time, we will open the refuge back up to the public. The expected date of completion is unknown at this time.
Once the refuge reopens, we will notify the local newspaper, Cat Island NWR website, and Lower Mississippi River Refuge Complex Facebook page. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
