Default Touchdown #3 - Pulpwood

11/13/17
Area 2
8 point
35 Whelen Ruger

15 EHL points

Tried a new area today. We walked in and started seeing some decent sign and my cousin decided he would stay there. Another buddy and myself continued deeper in and found more scrapes and hookings.

After setting up I️ dozed off briefly. Not knowing how long I had been out I️ hit a rattling sequence followed by a grunt. About 15 minutes later a deer came in hard to my north, but stopped about 50 yards out and I️ couldnít see it. I️ texted my neighboring hunter to hit his grunt. 5 minutes later I️ catch this guy slipping south of me. Without time to analyze him much I️ swung and fired.

When I️ went up to see what I had, I️ noticed a sore on his back. I️ figured he had been fighting and didnít think much of it until we started cleaning him. The infection was from between his shoulder blades down to his brisket. I️ couldnít bring myself to feeding this to my family so got rid of the whole deer. Turning the samples needed into LDWF. That is a great deer! Congrats Buddy!
You said you would increase in size from the last one... and you did!

Itís a shame about the meat but I think I would do the same.

Beautiful buck, congrats!
Yep not worth even finding out when they have an infection like that. I shot a buck in South Texas that had survived a low rifle shot from 3 was prior. Didn't look that bad until they started skinning. Got my mount but the meat went to the coyotes.
