Default First yote of the trapping season

Well my trapping season just started a few days ago. I normally start trapping heavily after deer season but got an even later start this year. Got some permission to set on some private property. People around the area are having alot of problems with the coyotes getting livestock and after there small pets. Ran 6 sets the first night and I go back the next morning and this is what I had! Nice female. Expect to have a few more in the upcoming days.

That's cool but what is the hole
For? Did you dig it to put bait in it?

The trap gets put in a slight depression and bait scents are where the to logs meet. Scene this on trappers on a hunting channel. More to it that just setting a leg trap.

What would be the bait? Pc of meat or dog food? I'd
Like to try behind my house. Bastards howl all freaking night after all the cane is cut! I guess I can just hear them better since the cane is cut .

Nice!!!! My trapping season is slow this yr due to work. I will run one more line before selling.

Judging by your ser this aint your first rideo lol. You need to join our forum on louisianatrappers.com

You put your bait or lure in the hole. The sticks are kind of like guide lines for the animal to step on the trap. Behind my hole I usually put a backing log rock etc. Then put urine on the backing to add a little more attractant.

Default thanks guys

Yes guys its a dirt hole set. Which is basically all I use. Rarely will I use a flat set. The dirt hole set is all about imitating another predator coming along and burying a kill. This is my second year of trapping last year all I got was 2 bobcats and countless miss's on the coyotes but what I learned from last year is don't pass up the minor details. As one of you said it is alot more than just putting out a foot trap. Location and the details when setting these traps can make all the difference in the world. I use a combo of bait, lure, and urine. Plenty on the market to order from, I personally use the hoosier trapper supply lure line. They've been extremely helpful with me through emails when I was getting started last year. With all the coyote problems all over I should start a trapping gig on the side and make a little side cash!!

Love the eyes in the coyote pic. Other pics was my two cats from last year

I sell to Wendell Nunez in Perry, just south of Abbeville. And go to the website and join. You can also become a member if LTAHA Louisiana trappers and alligator hunters association. The LTAHA convention is also coming up. Anyone can go member or not. They put on a bunch if demos, from different types of set making, skinning and putting up fur, and waxing dying traps and more. There is also stuff for kids like trap setting contests. There are also fur buyers there that will buy your fur. Highly recommended.
