Default .17 hmr?

My brother and I got a .17hmr rifle for Christmas and have been talking about coyote hunting on our lease during the off season. Do you guys think the .17 has the capability to take down a yote? If so suggested round type and range.

My mom killed two yotes with the 17 this fall. Think she shoots the accu.

Default Hollow Points

I an kind of a fan of hollow points. Haven't used the Polomer tips yet. But the hollow points do some damage too. haven't got the 17hmr yet. I'll just let the .223 get them for now.

The Hornady V-Max is by far the best shooting bullet out of my Ruger M77 .17HMR. I've shot it off a bench out as far as 150 yards and I can still hit the same quarter size dot that I hit at 50 yards.

The .17 is bad to the bone. My father-in-law got one and brought it to the house last weekend. The accuracy is unbelievable. Also it destroys anything you shot at. I can't wait to get my own.

Default game points or xtp

game points would be my choice. they will give the best penetration. i use them on hogs all the time and have seen 150 pound sows shot quartering away die within 70 yds with them. we shot a huge male yote last year right behind the shoulder with hornady vmax's and lost it. the dog flipped screamed and rolled around for a while and then took off never to be seen again. the only thing i can figure that went wrong was poor penetration due to the yote's heavy winter coat and large size. now, if all you want to take is head shots the plastic tip bullets or hollow points will do just fine.
