Default Looks like CC lost 5,000 acres

Looking at the size description from last year to this year it looks like the WMA has lost 5,000 acres. Anyone have more information?

It looks like they've lost some small portions here and there, but doesn't look like 5000 acres to me but I'll run the numbers.

Owner: Hancock Timber (53,776 acres. Lake Charles Office) 2013-2014

Owner: Hancock Timber (48,500 acres. Lake Charles Office) 2014-2015

Comes out to a 5,276 acre difference.

I looked at the map [July 2013] on the LDWF web site and compared it to a 10+ year old map that I have. All the property boundaries looked to be the same.

But the web site map a year old....... so something could have changed.

But "loosing" 10% of the WMA property ...... you would have thought there would have been something in the news.

I've been up there alot over the past few weeks. If they lost any, I cant tell where. Now on another note, yall will be suprised when you get up there. I made a comment last year about how much big timber they cut. Well this year they have cut way more than they did last year. Gonna be alot of folks show up and their primary areas will be gone. Its bad.

Call the lake Charles field office and talk to Wendell Smith. I'm sure he will be able to tell you what's going on, if anything.

But to MnT's observations, I can vouch for that. They were cutting like no tomorrow during turkey season. Heck, an area me and my buddy hunted a bird in on opening weekend was clear cut 2 weeks later. Never made a trip back after opening weekend.

Makes you wonder why.....

That probably means one area of big pines at I was going to hunt..... may be gone now.

A couple of years ago, I scouted a small area of big pines. I went in along the edge and got around to the back [about 400 yards] then I kept going along the back side. I then decided to cut back through the middle to go back to the road. It took me about 20 minutes to get to the back side and almost an hour to get through that thick stuff. Never went back again to this spot.

Planning to go up there this week.
