Default Two More Down

The family went to the land Saturday Kevin and I and two of my grandsons worked in the back to set up feeders and set the hog trap as my wife and I decided to spend the night. At the last minute we changed our mind but left the trap set because I was going to return on Sunday.

Sunday morning we were greeted by the two shoats that have been at my trail-cam site for the last month. These were the most wild pigs I had ever seen. Had a lot more fight in them than that big boar I caught last week.

I will up load a movie later this week.

Default Fatten' em up

Prof, as long as you are going to be "blessed" with hogs, why don't you get something shallow that will hold water that the hogs can get to,and put liquid hog worm and corn in it? This is something that you can do on the weekends you are there, and in a month or so, you will see a big improvement in quality of the hogs you trap. I used to use an old trucktire that was cut in half around the circumference that they couldn't turn over easily, and you talk about some pretty hogs! You can't get rid of them all,as trapping with bait is a double-edged sword in drawing them in,so you may as well pretty them up.

Sounds like a good idea. How much corn do you put in the water? I don't guess it would hurt the deer. You are right about not being able to get rid of them. There are more and more every year and the neighbor traps them fairly regularly. There are ususally more hogs in his direction closer to the river.

Default Trap

How is the door set on your trap? I have a trap about that size, but the guy who built it put a swing door that you use with a bungie cord. The hogs have to push the door open with there snout and once there in the door swings back to where they can't get out. Problem is that I have never caught a hog to this date in 3 years of trying. Someone told me to leave the door open and let them come in and out for a week, but that did not work. I know we have a ton of hogs due to sign and shooting 3 with a rifle last year, but I can't seem to catch them. Either they are too smart to go into the trap or I am not doing something right. Any suggestions on method, bait, type of trap, etc. from anyone reading this? I am open for anything.

Turkeynutz I'm having the same problem that you are having. I've been told to brush the trap in like a ground blind but that did not work either.
