Default Deer Parasites?

Cleaning a healthy looking buck taken in West Feliciana yesterday, we came across these things in the fatty tissue along the backbone and through the neck. It does not appear to be in the meat itself. They were not moving and were about the size & color of a small tick, with no legs. A three inch knife include in first picture 4 inch in second for reference. I have never seen this before. Anyone Know what this is? Is the meat safe?
Thanks
