Public land or Lease?!?! Please help!!

Well i have been thinking on this topic for quite some time now and wanted to get yalls opinion. I will soon be moving about 2 hours away to a new university and i am on a lease about 30 minutes away and didnt see much any sign this year. I would like to save my lease money but i love to hunt to much. Would you guys or gals continue to stay on the lease or hunt public land? Which WMA's have place where i could bring my pirogue to get to a hunting location? Please help me here!!!!

What university? Location may matter in what is recommended. But if your lease isn't doing you any good and you need to save $, go public all the way. Cheaper, more options and if you put in the work you will be successful

I have been a part of a lease in one way or another for the past 20 years. There are some aspects I do like, but the frustrations far out weighed the benefits. This year I strictly hunted public land, no lease and had more fun than I have had in years. No more leases for me.
But if your time to hunt is very limited and you do not have time to put in on public land to scout and such then hunt a lease where you may be able to up your chances.

Drop the lease, you'll need the money. Plenty WMA's in that area; take your pick on LDWF WEBSITE.

I dropped my lease around that age (college age even though I didn't attend school) to save money and started hunting public land. Have had a blast doing so. It's about 10x harder but about 20x more rewarding. Now lil bit older and more financially stable I'm thinking about getting back in my lease. Main reason it's easier and safer for me to bring my young son. But I don't think I'll give up hunting public completely. Best advice I can give you is to be adaptive and stay positive. Do that and you'll be successful

Try darbonne or black bayou, the pirogue can be real handy there and good success rate.

I would go straight to Darbonne & spend all my time there learning every crook & cranny behind every tree & i wouldnt go nowhere else if i was in your shoes. Just my opinion.
