Bow Kill

Talk about cold!!!!!! I didn't think it could be so cold so close to Mexico! I had a great time and hunt near Del Rio where a buddy invited me and seen alot of deer. The lease I was on was set up with box stands and not for bow hunting so I decided to sit in a box stand for the first couple hunts to see what was coming to a couple feeders. On Friday morning the weather was horrible with freezing rain and 20 mph winds, and when I got up in the stand all the windows that faced the feeder was frozen shut with a sheet of ice over the glass. I couldn't even see the feeder. I ended up having to watch the entire hunt from a small crack in the door to see deer chasing everywhere in front of me. That suited me just fine since I didn't want to shoot one with a rifle anyway. On Friday eve I set up a ground blind on another location and watched plenty of bucks coming and going but they were weary of the ground blind. Fast forward to Saturday morning and it was pretty much the same thing, deer would come in but they quickly turned their attention to my set up and shy away, until this guy came in from in front of me where there was a large bush and it protected me from his sight. He ate on some corn I put out on the outside of the feeder fence, but still behind the bush, so he had no idea I was there. When he finished he worked his way from behind the bush to an opening, I drew my bow and released my arrow at the exact time he was going to jump a small pasture fence and I watched my arrow enter in the back hip.... I was devastated only for about 5 seconds because he only ran 40 yds and did the death wobble and collapsed!!!! Did I mention I was using 2" GR whitetail specials? Oh yea, I did "watch em drop"!!!!!!

I shoulda stopped him… he was approaching a fence to jump and I thought that before he jumped I would have an opportunity… I was wrong. First pic you can see my lumenock leaving ground blind on left side of pic (green dot) at that time you can see the fence post behind the deer is roughly the area I am aiming. the second pic is him launching to jump fence and the impact and where his hip is compared to fence post…. I was regretting not stopping him.
