Antler restriction is a choice…… Period. I believe that if you want BIG deer and BIG Antlers,,, YOU have got to let the deer population grow. Be it bucks or bucks and does…. Look at the midwest. 1 – ONE – UNO BUCK per YEAR! this will force the average hunter to WAIT for a bigger deer thereby allowing the younger ones to GROW OLDER! For me its SIMPLE, We are killing WAY to Many deer in our OVERALL state. My vote is for 4 deer a year, 1 buck and 3 does!!!!!!
I just got through having this discussion with LDWF in Pineville about Camp Beauregard WMA. Way too many 1 1/2yr old bucks being killed. He said he hopes there will never be antler restrictions on WMA’s or as a state wide rule. He stated it discourages hunters from hunting when you limit what they can shoot. Heaven forbid if you make it where someone can’t shoot a 80-100lbs baby buck that hasn’t had a chance to grow up. There is no reason for us to have a 3 buck limit in the state. If you want meat, shoot does.
