On Saturday, May 9, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) in conjunction with The US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Fish & Wildlife Service will be hosting their annual Step Outside event at Sherburne WMA’s Complex in Iberville Parish. The event is youth oriented and will feature antler shed hunting, boat rides, archery shooting, bird watching, decoy painting, fishing, laser tag, nature photography, target & skeet shooting, and wood whittling. Several animal exhibits will also be on display, including alligators, raptors, and Louisiana black bear. Exciting demonstrations about dog training, trapping techniques, turkey & duck calling, turkey trapping, and water safety will prove fun for the whole family. All participants need to do is show up, as equipment will be provided by the event’s staff and all activities are free of charge. It kicks off at 9am and ends at 3pm, with lunches served at noon and drawings & door prizes given out at 1:30pm. Camping will be available at the Sherburne Headquarters. For more information and driving directions, please call (337) 585-0853 between the hours 7am and 3:30pm. If you’ve never been, it will be an event you’ll return to every year.

I’ve been to one of these events and I have to say it’s probably one of the best outings I’ve ever had with my kids. If you’re looking for something to do with the entire family I highly recommend attending this. My hat goes off to everyone that’s involved in putting together one of the best outdoor events that I’ve ever seen. Trust me….your kids will love it!
Checked it out today, had a good time with my son and nephew. Looking forward to it when they are older and able to participate more.
