This invention has definitely made early season bowhunting much more pleasurable for all of us who hunt in south Louisiana. Another very important piece of equipment to bring is a camo head net. This covers your head completely except around your eyes and will keep any of the few mosquitos who do make it through the Thermacell from landing on your face and causing you to be distracted while bowhunting.
So let’s review: you need to be in shape, you’ve set up your stand in the most optimal, wind favorable, shady place you can find, you’re hydrated, unscented, and dressed for success, and have adequate protection against those dreaded mosquitos. But there’s one more supremely important factor that you will need to make all of this come together and work for you. No one can give it to you and it can’t be bought. It’s something each hunter will have to supply for himself. What is this magic potion? Actually, there is no magic to it whatsoever. The key to the success of all that we have discussed is to have a positive attitude. It’s as simple as that!
You must bring a positive attitude with you each and every time you venture into the woods to hunt. It is a necessity for your bowhunting success and will greatly enhance your life in the “real” world as well. When you’ve been up in the stand for hours on end, haven’t seen a deer, the mosquitos are buzzing, and the temperature’s climbing, just take a few moments to count your blessings. Thank God for all of his wonderful gifts. The harsh elements will soon fade away as your attitude becomes more positive. You will begin to realize how fortunate we all are to live freely in this great country—just how blessed we are to even have the time and opportunity to venture out into God’s great glory of nature to enjoy this sport we all love so much. Be positive my brothers! The countdown is winding down! You’re ready to deal with all of the elements of early season bowhunting in south Louisiana. All you have to do now is to get out there, pass a good time, and have a great hunt! Good luck!

Great article and advice Ricky. I took the “get in shape” approach 2.5 yrs ago and it’s one the best choices I have ever made. I now pack my stand, bow and backpack a mile or more through the hills without giving the hike a second thought.
Great article Ricky. Of all the thigs you said, the part about the positive attitude is the most important. When that attitude declines it is hard to stay on the stand.
Great article Ricky!!!
