BayouBucks.com and Cajun Outdoors Magazine have partnered once again for an event that brings friendly and fun outdoor-entertainment to Acadiana like no other—the first annual Cajun Spotters Frog Fest. Boats are lining up for the Frog Fest, scheduled to begin Saturday night, March 27 at the Atchafalaya Basin Landing in Henderson, LA. Contestants will try their luck on the water to boat as many frogs as possible before midnight, and crowds at the launch will ensure the Jambalaya is kept hot and the beverages stay cold. Unlike traditional fishing tournaments, Frog Fest is centered around everyone enjoying themselves, so whether you take to the water or hang back at the landing at Turtle’s Bar “waiting” for teams to return, entertainment will be in no short supply.

Frog Fest FAQ:

What is “frogging”?

Frogging is the art of catching as many bullfrogs as possible during the night by aid of a spotlight which illuminates their eyes. It’s a team effort. The person manning the light is the “spotter,” and he usually drives the boat as well. The “catchers” lay upon their stomachs on the bow of the boat and try to grab as many frogs as possible within arm’s length. Oftentimes, special tools known as gigs are employed to assist the less than savvy in catching their quarry. This is perfectly legal, but just remember, as the Frog Fest shirt implies: Gigs are for Girly Men.™

What if I’ve never frogged before or don’t have a boat?

Great question. We’ve taken lengthy steps to ensure that as many people who wish to frog will have an opportunity to do so. Several seasoned entrants have left 1-2 spots open in their boats for first-timers and/or boatless souls to participate. So far, supply of spots in boats has exceeded demand, but it’s important that you pre-register so we’ll know in advance who and how many to accommodate.

What if I just want to hang out at the landing and wait on the teams to return?

Several people have already elected to do this. While teams are vying for the heaviest load of frogs on the water, people back at the landing will be putting the “Fest” in Frog Fest. Celebrations will run throughout the night, and only intensify once weigh-in is complete.

What do I get if I win?

You get to pet the kangaroos. Seriously, if you’re entering Frog Fest just to win prizes, then there are other venues better suited for you. Our goal is to ensure everyone enjoys themselves. Yes, there are some awesome door prizes and a trophy for the winning team, but let’s not lose focus on why we’re gathering in the first place—to pass a good time!

frog-fest-shirtEverything sounds awesome! How do I participate?

Simple. Registration is $20, regardless if you’re frogging or not, and will include a limited-edition Frog Fest shirt, supper, and eligibility for door prizes. Just click here and answer the poll question at the top. You can also call 985-662-0713 or email moreinfo@bayoubucks.com outlining your intentions to come. When calling or emailing, please mention your name, phone number, boat status, additional guests, and shirt size(s). Additional shirts for registrants are $15.
