We’ve heard there will be several awards for various accomplishments.
EHL awards are strictly pride-based. We hunt for the personal gratification our sport provides, and not any sort of financial gain. For example, winning the Super Bowl is a lot more important to most football players than the material rewards they receive for playing the game. Recognition for doing it right and the opportunity to defend your title are at the top of my list.
And just because you’re not on the winning team doesn’t mean you won’t be recognized for your record. After all, that’s one of the primary reasons we created this contest—to reward and bring to light the best hunters for their individual efforts.
So shouldn’t they be competing individually? After all, isn’t deer hunting an individual sport?
Absolutely, deer hunting’s a solitary sport, and it always will be. The “contest” side of it just adds an element of competitiveness, fun, and camaraderie to our sport. Without that, a lot of these guys would never share their kills with our online community. And when they do, we all win because we all learn. Some guys just need a team to motivate them. Plus, it really helps to pass the off-season by. I can’t wait to watch the Draft! There’s some major sleepers in the current draft pool.
When is the Draft and how will that unfold? A lot of people seem to be anticipating it.
Absolutely! The first round of the draft will be August 1, 2010 at 7:00 PM, live on BayouBucks.com. You have to register by July 18 to play, and I’d expect many of the draftees to be monitoring the forum to see which team they will be playing on. It’s an honor to be chosen in the first round, and a particular honor to be the first overall pick. I anticipate each round of the Draft to increase in enthusiasm as players are placed and teams are built. As Commissioner of the EHL, I’ll be particularly interested to see how balanced the teams are while they’re being built. It’s going to be a great thing to watch!
It sure seems that way. We wish all 24 teams the best of luck this season, and look forward to updating our readers every month with the Movers & Shakers of the EHL. It should make for some exciting content for our magazine!
