When it comes to deer hunting in Louisiana, one of the best areas around for quality sized whitetails are the Parishes that boarder the Mississippi River. Last night in Marksville La., people from all over the state were invited to show off their trophy’s at The Central LA Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association’s second annual scoring event held at the Avoyelles Parish Council on Aging Office. Last years event saw some of he largest deer killed in the state brought to the central Louisiana office, and this years turn out wasn’t much different.

Several BayouBucks.com members were in attendance including Josh Townsend, AKA: RaginCagin. ”It was a great time tonight. Dinner was good and the QDM guys were even better. They teamed up with the LDWF guys and were very helpful with information on food plots, deer herd management, and any other questions you may have about how to grow big whitetails. I don’t think you could ask for more than they did,” said Townsend. One deer that we broke the story on this year was there and it was the monster buck that Scott Roszell of Effie, La killed. If you remember correctly, Scott’s deer scored 184″ green and after the official drying time of atleast 60 days, stretched the tape to a very impressive 178″ gross score. Several more bucks were tagged with an official score and the overall night was a success.

The deer killed in Louisiana last year were of some amazing size to say the least and with the management programs and fertile soil that the eastern most Parishes have, there’s no telling what the 2010-11 season will hold. Who knows, the next state record bow kill may fall or maybe even the next record book typical will get a free ride in the back of a pick-up. One thing’s for sure though, if you stay logged into BayouBucks.com, you’ll be the first in the state to find out!
