Warren Womack's style of exercising has help get him into shape for since he has 14 years old.

Now Murray’s style is pretty extreme for most people, but there are other ways to train and if power isn’t your thing, the next subject way of training just might be the ticket.  Warren Womack, the subject of our pod cast every Wednesday night on BayouBucks.com, has been weight training for years and while his style may not promote the power that Murray’s does; it will whip you into shape in a hurry.  “I like to do a whole body workout about three times a week combined with walking three days a week.  I have a bad back and knees, so walking and leg extensions are all I can do for legs.  When I walk, I do it very fast.  If I walk two miles to a turn around spot, I’ll see how long it too me to get there.  I always try my best to get back in the same amount of time it took me to my turn around spot,” Womack said.   “When I work with weights, it’s a lighter weight, high repetition work out.  It’s fast paced too.  I remember years ago, a younger member of my family decided he wanted to work out with me.  He was a big kid that knew his way around a weight room, and I told him that my way may be elementary for him, but please do it the way I do it.  My weights are set up so that I can go from workout to workout and not stop.  Well, he made it about ten minutes, then he went outside and threw up.  I finished my workout and took him home.  He never came back to workout with me again,” laughed Womack.  Another way that Womack will prepare for hunting season is in September he will hang a stand in a tree and use climbing sticks to reach his perch to practice his bow shooting from.  “That usually gets my body conditioned for climbing and shooting.  Once opening day of bow season rolls around, everything feels normal,” explained Womack.

When you hunt like Murray and Warren, seen here, you had better be in shape. These type hunts are a workout in themselves.

Many people love the idea of exercising, but most find it almost impossible to find time to do it.  One thing that both agree on is staying consistent with any sort of exercise you may be doing.  “You have to commit to it.  The best way I have found to stay on track is pick a certain day and time to workout.  Don’t let anything come between you and your workout.  Schedule your day around it,” added Womack.  It must work because both Landry and Womack are over 50 years old and love to be as mobile in the woods as possible.  Exercising has been a part of my life for nearly 13 years.   I workout every weekday, but Wednesday, and usually once on the weekend and I do everything I can to keep that schedule.  I am the Daddy to two girls under the age of three and time around our hosue is limited.  I have found that the best time for me to get a workout in is five a.m, well before our kids wake up and the day gets hectic.  You would never be able to tell that I exercise by looking at me, but that doesn’t bother me at all.  When October rolls around, that’s when all the hard work in the off season pays off.  I can scout longer, climb faster, and stay motivated to hunt longer and it’s all due to my body being in shape for hunting.

I love my Remington Model Seven, I love my Mathews Monster, but more than all of those I love me some me.  If I am not ready to hunt, the hunt doesn’t last long.  If you can’t scout long because you get winded or tired, then you may not find the best sign to hunt.  If you aren’t hunting the best sign, then you probably won’t see many deer.  It basically boils down to this; if you get tired, you’ll want to go home and you can’t kill a deer while sitting at home on the couch.

I see why Mr. Warren mainly uses a bow, his guns are permanently attached to his body.

Good article Greg…I think my training/officiating on the football field gets me in great shape, we start officiating scrimmages and field camps in mid August

Great piece of writing Greg. Says alot about the things a hunter will do just to put some meat on the table. I try to run or use an eliptical about 3 to 4 miles a day so that I can cover alot of ground scouting and getting deeper into the woods where there is alot less pressure from others. Add in some weight training and I’m usually good for whatever comes my way around bow season. Thanks for the article and I will be waiting on some more fine writing.

I have hunted with Trooper and know Mr Womack. They can get it done for sure. Trooper was part of my motivation for getting back in shape. Great hunters but better men. Glad to know them.
