Some people just have it.  Luck just seems to follow them wherever they go.  They’re the type of people that if you draw a King, they’ll draw and Ace; if you throw rock, they’ll throw paper.  I’ve hunted with guys like that.  Guys who’ll wander off in search of fresh deer sign and come out with a nice buck in tow.  But a lot of the times, these same hunters make their own luck or have someone who cares enough about them to actually go out of their way to help assist in making a dream come true.  When you combine hard work and dedication with a touch of luck, ole big boy doesn’t stand a chance.  Just ask Kevin Breaux of Franklin, La. and his brother-in-law Shane Bagala.  On January 14, 2011, their hard work and hours of scouting was well worth the time when Kevin brought home a buck that he has been chasing for four years.

“About four years ago, we started getting pictures of this deer.  We guess him to be around 3 ½ years old then.  He was a real decent looking deer with some kicker points.  We’d never seen anything like that before and we got real excited about it,” said Breaux.  The following year, they only got two pictures of the big deer all season long and knew it was time to step up their game in order to catch the buck.  “After that year, we started running a couple of camera’s and that’s when he really blew up.  He was probably just as good as he is now,” explained Breaux.  Being a cane farmer, Breaux’s crop harvest hit at the wrong time in order for him to be in stand when the buck started to slip up in 2010.  “We started getting some daylight pictures of the buck coming in with some does, but I was harvesting cane at the time and couldn’t hunt.  Now this year, he must’ve set up shop on our place because I started getting pictures of him every night since December 1st.  I used to think he was coming from somewhere else because I’d never see him until January 15th or so, but when we started getting him that regular, we knew this must be his core area now.  He lost his drop tines from last year and we didn’t know if it was the same buck or not until I shot it,” Breaux went on to say.
